Behind the Scenes of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus!

As you may know, I am a Teaching Assistant for a course called Introduction to Companion Animals. The professor who teaches the course also teaches one of Companion Animal Management and she always takes her students behind the scenes to see the animals of the Ringling Brothers Circus. She invited us along and there was no way I was passing up such an opportunity.

We were sat on the floor of the arena and got to see how the big cat handler trains his cats (which are owned by him and not the circus itself) with the batons and cords. We also got to see some of the tricks the cats can do. Afterwards, we got to see the elephants from the show and also some of the more domestic animals, including horses, alpacas, goats, donkeys and ponies.

Check out some of the pictures below. It was a great experience and I'm thankful I got the opportunity!

Alex, the handler, and Bella saying hello as tigers would.

Bella sitting up for us.

Bringing out the other big cats. This is Masai.

Masai was so big he barely fit on his seat.

The cats forming a pyramid.

Jumping over posts.

All of the cats, sitting up.

The elephants. The little one on the right is 5 years old.

Playing in the sand.

This girl was funny! She pressed her feet against her trunk and blew out air, making farting noises.

One of the horses.

Beautiful blue eyes!
Goats!

Masai, all tuckered out after two shows and our private performance.

This is Mowgli, a two year old leopard, who is not yet in the show.

Me and the silly elephant playing with her trunk.

As you can see, I had such a wonderful time! I took over 200 pictures there!
